The idea is to come up with an app that would help people discover new beauty products and share their own experiences with others.
- Project Scope
- Research (CJM, User survey & Concept testing, Desk Research)
- High-fidelity wireframes
- User Interface and Visual Style
- Interaction Design (Principle)
Online-shopping has become prevalent even when it comes to such tricky products as make-up. Considering the current trends and the situation in the world, those who seek to buy new skincare and make-up products will need help in choosing those products carefully even more.
Market and consumer research readily available on the internet shouldn't be underestimated as it can be rather insightful. So, in the 2019 cosmetics industry research, I've found the parts that were most important in my product's case:
More than 70% of the respondents bought cosmetics online in the past months
Women generally tend to purchase cosmetics from big retail websites
Almost 70% tend to read user-generated reviews before purchase (the younger the age, the more they read them)
One company had a 11% conversion rate increase because of authentic user generated reviews
...and so on.
Shortly – authentic reviews from real customers with real pictures help drive sales, and people very often look specifically for such reviews.
📝 I've also created a short questionnaire to explore those consumer habits by myself.
Demographics, simple yes/no, and open-ended questions were all a part of it. I've asked about what makes people trust product reviews more, what makes them distrust them, how the process of choosing a new product looks for them, and other similar things.
The fact that people do research reviews online was confirmed once again; they also trust the opinion of someone they know and want to see real close-up pictures of the product on a real person, as well as a before and after photo after using it.
Thanks to the gathered data it will be easier to define the app's functions and start designing.
